Quintana Roo Prepares Campaign to Attract Gastronomic Tourism

The National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac) is preparing a special promotional campaign to increase the influx of gastronomic tourism to the Mexican Caribbean, following the inclusion of Quintana Roo in the Michelin gastronomic guide.

The organization will train its members so that more restaurants receive a star or recommendation in the second issue of the Michelin Guide, especially in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel, and Isla Mujeres, informed the president of the Canirac in Quintana Roo and Cancun, Julio Villarreal Zapata.

“We will continue to strive to do better and be prepared to receive the inspectors, who are anonymous because they have to receive the service as any diner would receive it at any time, then this makes you stand out worldwide,” he said.

This proposal will be presented to the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo (CPTQ), requesting that it be included within the activities of the Committee for the Promotion of Gastronomy in Quintana Roo.

In addition, it will be socialized with the Mexican Caribbean Hotel Council (CHCM) and other business chambers so that this initiative can be promoted.

Villarreal Zapata recalled that the selection of the Michelin Guide Mexico 2024 was made by expert inspectors considering five criteria: quality of the products used, mastery of culinary techniques, harmony of flavors, personality of the chef expressed in the dish, and consistency over time, and the menu as a whole.

Thus, three restaurants in Quintana Roo received a Michelin star for signature cuisine by chef Nahum Velasco in Riviera Maya; Le Chique by Jonatan Gómez Luna in Puerto Morelos, and HA’ by Carlos Gaytan in Playa del Carmen, “which are among the most respected and coveted awards worldwide in the gastronomic sector,” he said.

Added to the above are four restaurants that received the Big Gourmand for their value for money, whose winners were Axiote Cocina de México, Cetli, Mestixa, and Punta Corcho.

The Michelin Guide Mexico 2024 also included 13 recommendations from Quintana Roo: Arca, Autor, Bu’ul, Casa Banana, El Fogón, Hartwood, Kiosko Verde, La Casa de las Mayoras, María Dolores, NÜ Tulum, Posada Margherita, Wild and Woodend.
