Riviera Maya’s Gastronomic Triumph: A Michelin Milestone

Marcy Bezaleel Pacheco, national commissioner of Gastronomic Tourism of Canirac, highlighted the upcoming recognition of several chefs from restaurants and hotels in the Riviera Maya, spanning from fine dining establishments to vibrant local markets.

She emphasized the significance of the Michelin Guide’s stars and awards, particularly for Quintana Roo, as it becomes the first Mexican state to receive recognition on a state-wide level. Unlike typical Michelin awards that focus on specific cities, Quintana Roo’s acknowledgment as a whole elevates the region as a unified brand in gastronomic tourism, showcasing its diverse culinary landscape to the world.

“This recognition is a testament to the dynamism of Quintana Roo,” expressed Bezaleel Pacheco. “It allows us to promote the entire state as a culinary destination, offering a rich tapestry of flavors and experiences.”

Moreover, she highlighted the positive impact of these accolades in diversifying the gastronomic offerings of the state, fostering economic development, and promoting sustainable practices within the industry.

Bezaleel Pacheco also underscored the role of such recognitions in boosting gastronomic tourism, citing the success of events like the Caribbean Gastronomic Festival in Puerto Morelos, which drew 5,000 visitors.

Looking ahead, she revealed that Tulum is emerging as a potential new venue for the festival, reflecting its growth in gastronomic tourism. The decision for the next venue will be announced at the Tourism Fair of Madrid in 2025, further solidifying the Riviera Maya’s position as a culinary hotspot on the global stage.
